Croeso i ddosbarth Miss Williams!

Ein Dosbarth Ni - Our Class

Dosbarth Miss. Williams is a Year 2 class.

Mrs. Rachel Williams covers the class on a Monday.

Ein Thema - Our Theme:

Our Topic is Meerkat Manor with a literacy focus on the book Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett. We will also be looking at Safari and Africa.

Literacy, language and communication:

We will be focusing on Report writing using Pie Corbett. We will focus on reading factual texts to support this process. We will cover a range of oracy activities to gather content and look at editing and revising our work. Alongside this pupils will attend Read write inc sessions regularly to develop their phonic knowledge. Spelling and particularly handwriting activities will be embedded into these activities. Across the curriculum pupils will have the opportunity to look at postcards and a book review.

Maths and Numeracy:

  • Adio a thynnu / Adding and subtracting near multiples of 10.
  • Using place value to add and subtract.
  • Adding pairs of two digit of numbers
  • Measuring
  • Multiplication tables
  • Telling the time in 15 minute intervals

Humanities:

  • What are Deserts?
  • Habitats and eco systems
  • Map work

Expressive Arts:

  • Role play travel agents
  • Making masks
  • African art

Homework

Literacy and/or Numeracy homework will be distributed on the Wednesday to be returned by the following  Monday.

Pupils take part in spelling activities weekly, both during Read write inc sessions and in class, these activities can consist of games or informal tests. Therefore, there is no need for an extra formal spelling test.

Reading

Reading books will be sent home each night and returned to school the following morning. It is our aim to read with the children as much as possible. It is essential that the children reinforce these skills by reading at home every other evening at least if possible.  We encourage pupils to select other books of interest from the class library as well.  To ensure reading is meaningful we have integrated a range of novels/stories into the reading scheme which you may come across from time to time.

Monday

There will be both P.E and Messy Monday. Please provide a suitable P.E kit and footwear. Wellingtons and a raincoat will be required as well. If the Wellingtons could be left in school for the week, and returned home on the Friday that would be very helpful. Mrs. Rachel Williams will be teaching on a Monday.

If there is anything you wish to discuss with me please don’t hesitate to pop in.

Many thanks

Miss. K Williams
